Restored Family Heirloom.
Back from repair
Clarance Kane of “Enak Microphone Repair inc.” just finished inspecting and repairing my RCA! He restored this mic for my uncle back in 1981. Everything looked good…it just needed a new ribbon.
My new vintage RCA 74b
I recently inherited this beautiful 1940’s vintage ribbon microphone! It’s an RCA 74b, Jr. Velocity. I’m currently shooting a video that illustrates how this mic has been used in my family for three generations. My Grandfather first recorded with it back in 1947, with his band “The Kentucky Hilltoppers”. Stay tuned…I’ll be releasing the video soon!
Putting it to good use
I just finished using the mic to record lead vocals for a song my grandfather wrote back on April 30, 1945. The microphone sounds fantastic!!

Hand made in Tula, Russia
Located just 2 hours south of Moscow, Tula has long been famous for being the home of Russia’s top machinists. It’s long history of metalworking began in the 1700s when the Demidov blacksmiths were commissioned by the Tsar to build Russia’s very first weapons factory. Since then, Tula has remained a center of weapons production and machining. Tula is also famous for producing samovars and gingerbread (prianiki). Russia’s oldest microphone factory, Oktava, was founded in Tula in 1927 and Soyuz has benefited greatly from hiring former engineers, assemblers and machinists who were trained there.

May 8, 2020-
I made the decision to postpone my Pascha project. This decision was largely due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the subsequent social restrictions. Plans to resume the Pascha project will ensue when these restrictions are lifted. In the meantime, I have started working on a children’s album! This is something that I’ve wanted to do for some time. Fortunately, this project can be accomplished by remote collaboration. I’m currently working with some top-notch jazz session players. This is the first time I have written arrangements for jazz compositions, and it’s really taking me into some interesting waters! We currently have rough mixes on four songs. More to come…
Thanks for stopping by! Check back for more updates…
